Years 5 and 6 were visited by professional storyteller Genny Jones (aka the Confidence Queen), who captured imaginations with her African folk stories, songs and dance. Genny entranced us with her retelling of an Anansi tale (did you know why the spider has 8 legs?) and invited us to party with the sun, moon and water as we learned why the sun and moon hang in the sky. We heard a tale of a shy child who was visited in a dream by the Confidence Queen, and together we sang the Confidence Song! Genny’s visit encouraged us to think about other cultures’ ideas about evolution and creation. Years 5 and 6 are now ready to write their own stories to explain scientific aspects of evolution and adaptation.
