Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is additional funding allocated to schools to support pupils from low-income families. Although schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit, they are held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support pupils’ attainment and progress.

Pupil Premium – School Milk

From 1 January 2015, schools across England are required to ensure that milk is made available during the school day to all pupils. All pupils aged between 5 and 18 who are eligible for free school meals (where the school claims a pupil premium) must be offered free milk. Schools use the dedicated grant to fund the provision of milk for eligible pupils.

The scheme offers each pupil 189 ml of milk at a subsidised price of 22p per child per day. Pupils under 5 years of age have milk free of charge, as do all those eligible for free school meals.
