Welcome to Falcon Class

Welcome back to term two! We hope you all had an enjoyable and relaxing half term and are ready for the challenges of term two. We have some fantastic learning to come but also plenty of fun to be had too!

Term Two

We have a new inquiry for term two and our new theme is Where we are in place and time. Through this new theme we will follow the central inquiry Exploration leads to discovery and may develop new understandings. This is another great inquiry for Falcon Class as it allows the children to develop their geography skills by mapping places around the world that have been explored in the past. They will develop their historical understanding and also unpick different perspectives around exploration and invasion. There will, of course, also be plenty of opportunity to be creative through music and art.

Term One

We begin this new academic year with the theme  How we express ourselves. This is a fantastic theme to start Year 5 with and it will follow the central inquiry Stories are told in may ways and may influence people’s beliefs, values and understanding of the world.  We began this inquiry in week one by looking at writers from around the world. The children produced some amazing artwork linking geography, literacy and art together to create these fabulous watercolour maps showing a variety of classic authors from around the world. We are so proud of their focus and concentration when working with watercolours to paint these beautiful maps.

Falcon Class have also begun to look at stories around creation. The children read a traditional Aboriginal creation story called Dreamtime and a Hindu creation story which they will be comparing to the more scientific theory around the creation of the Earth. Here are some of their pictures of the Rainbow Serpent, a key figure in the Aboriginal story.

Another exciting event to start this term was Roald Dahl Day. Here are some pictures of the things Falcon Class got up to on this day.

Watch this space for regular updates throughout the term!
